Forrest Highway from a Fremantle depot
Bunbury orders are not loaded in the South West. They leave the third-party Fremantle depot and come south on the Forrest Highway. There is no Dan’s office in Bunbury, and the Fremantle yard’s address stays off this page.
If you want eyes on the unit, an inspection at Fremantle can be arranged, or ask for pictures of the specific box and they will be sent before it is put on a truck.
Shutdown work and short renovations should include the dates you already know. The day the truck arrives is confirmed when the order is in, not before.
Who covers which Bunbury postcode
City of Bunbury covers the central suburbs on 6230: Carey Park, South Bunbury, East Bunbury, Withers, Usher, College Grove and Glen Iris. Marlston Hill is in that same central postcode, on a slope.
Australind and Leschenault are 6233 and sit in the Shire of Harvey. Eaton is 6232, Shire of Dardanup. Dalyellup and Gelorup stay on 6230 but fall in the Shire of Capel. Picton, the industrial pocket, is 6229. Kemerton, the strategic industrial area near Australind, is 6233.
Two households a short drive apart can be dealing with different verge rules and different outbuilding rules. Confirm the council, then ask them about the verge and anything specific to the zoning. After that, the conversation is about the truck and the spot.
Outside dimensions, door openings and how a 10ft compares with a 20ft are set out in Shipping container dimensions.
Narrow inner driveways and the Marlston slope
Inner streets near the CBD have older houses on narrower blocks, often a single driveway beside the house to a carport at the back. A 20ft rarely fits down that driveway. A 10ft on the front setback, or on the verge with the council’s agreement, is often the workable option. Mature street trees and overhead power in some of these streets also limit how high a tilt-tray can raise its deck.
Around Marlston Hill, photograph the slope. A tilt-tray wants a reasonably even surface to slide a container off, so a steep driveway may mean the box stays at the street end.
If the box is going on a front lawn, find underground services first: reticulation, older sewer or septic lines, and the power run to a shed. A truck wheel on a buried pipe is an avoidable repair.
Port, Picton, Kemerton and the new estates
Bunbury’s port moves alumina, woodchips and mineral sands. Picton and the Kemerton industrial area host processing plants, fabrication shops and contractor compounds. Containers on these sites are usually tool stores, spares rooms or shutdown equipment. Most sites have inductions and a gate procedure, so send the site contact early.
A shutdown brings a rush of contractors and a sudden need for lockable storage. Book the hire with the dates you know and let the site planners set the exact position, so the box does not land in a laydown area needed for something else. A cargo-worthy used container is checked wind and watertight and suits most tool and spares storage. A new single-trip suits a longer stay where the finish matters. As-is units are sold without a watertight claim.
Estates around Eaton, Dalyellup and Australind produce a steady run of house builds, pools and landscaping. A hired box placed at the start and collected at handover keeps tools secure without a daily run to a storage unit. The ground is sandy in most of these estates. Pads under each corner, and a position clear of where the driveway and paths will go. If the estate has design guidelines, read them before a container sits forward of the building line for months.
Shops, hobby farms, the waterfront
Retail and service businesses in the city use containers for overflow stock or archive boxes behind the shop. Check the lease, and make sure the box does not take a car bay the planning approval relies on.
On the edges there are larger lots, hobby farms and small rural businesses around Boyanup, Dardanup and Gelorup. Driveways are often unsealed, and paddock gates are common. Inland from the coast the soils are heavier. A track that is easy in summer can be soft through a wet winter. Describe the surface and how it holds after rain.
Koombana Bay and the sporting reserves host events through the year. Clubs and organisers use containers for gear and staging. On public land the council that manages the reserve sets the conditions. Allow for soft sand near the beach and irrigated turf on ovals. Older housing in Carey Park, East Bunbury and South Bunbury sees steady renovation work. A driveway box can hold furniture while a kitchen is replaced, and on hire it leaves when the job ends. For a move, it can hold belongings between settlements.
Greater Bunbury, written as four jobs
Treat the council as part of the address. City of Bunbury for Carey Park, South Bunbury, East Bunbury, Withers, Usher, College Grove, Glen Iris and Marlston Hill, all on 6230. Shire of Harvey for Australind and Leschenault on 6233. Shire of Dardanup for Eaton on 6232. Shire of Capel for Dalyellup and Gelorup, even though those suburbs share 6230 with the city. Picton industrial is 6229. Kemerton is 6233. A verge question sent to the wrong counter comes back blank.
Inner drives beside older houses are often a single width to a rear carport. A 20ft rarely threads that gap. A 10ft on the front setback, or on the verge after that council agrees, is the usual workaround. Street trees and powerlines cap how high a tilt-tray deck can rise. On Marlston Hill, photograph the slope both ways. Unloading wants a surface that is close to level, so the street end may be the real spot.
Before a box goes on a lawn, locate reticulation, old sewer or septic runs, and the power feed to a shed. Port, Picton and Kemerton drops are gatehouse jobs: alumina, woodchips, mineral sands, fabrication and shutdown laydown. Send the site contact early. Let the site planner pick the position so a tool store does not occupy a laydown the shutdown needs. Cargo-worthy used stock is checked wind and watertight and suits spares. A newer single-trip suits a long stay where the paint will be seen. Skip as-is when the contents must stay dry. That grade is not offered as a dry box.
Eaton, Dalyellup and Australind estates are sandy. Set pads under the corners and keep clear of future paths. Read estate guidelines before a container sits forward of the building line for months. Shops in town should check the lease so a box does not consume a bay the approval counts. Hobby farms toward Boyanup, Dardanup and Gelorup often have unsealed drives and paddock gates. Heavier inland soils soften in a wet winter. Describe the track after rain, not only on a dry afternoon.
Koombana Bay events and oval hires need the reserve manager’s conditions. Beach sand and irrigated turf both bog a truck. Renovations in Carey Park and South Bunbury use a driveway box for furniture during a kitchen job, and a hire leaves when the trades do. Moves between settlements use the same pattern. The Forrest Highway is the haul from the Fremantle depot a third party runs. Dan’s has no Bunbury office. Pictures of the reserved unit can be sent before it is loaded. The arrival day is set with the order.
If you only remember one Bunbury fact, remember the shire boundary can sit closer than the shops. A family in Dalyellup and a family in College Grove can share a postcode feel and still ring different counters about a verge. Eaton’s 6232 driveways are not Australind’s 6233 industrial edges, and Picton’s 6229 yards are not Marlston Hill slopes. Kemerton shutdowns want dates and a planner’s pin on a map. Hobby farms past Boyanup want a gate width. Write the job as one of those, attach the photos, and leave the Forrest Highway haul as a separate fact: Fremantle stock, third-party depot, no Dan’s office in town, pictures of the real container if you want them before it is loaded.
Usher, Withers and Glen Iris sit in the City of Bunbury on 6230 with the older grid, yet a container on those streets still meets different trees and different crossovers from one block to the next. Gelorup’s Capel rules are not South Bunbury’s city rules even when the drive looks similar. Leschenault’s Harvey side of the estuary is not the port. A shop wanting archive cartons behind the counter should say the lease allows the bay to disappear. A Koombana event should say who owns the turf that week. Send those distinctions with the photos and the Forrest Highway delivery can be quoted without a second round of questions about which shire you actually live in.
