All prices are guide prices in AUD and exclude GST. They are starting figures for the grade named, they move with condition, availability and where the unit has to come from, and none of them is a quote until the cartage to your address is on it.
Grades matter more than anything else in a container quote. Cargo-worthy is the grade we check wind and watertight before it leaves the depot. As-is units are cheaper again and are not sold watertight — they may carry a patched repair, a soft spot in the floor or a door seal that no longer seats, and we tell you exactly what is wrong with one rather than let you find it on delivery day. New single-trip units are sealed, unmarked and have made one loaded voyage. If the container has to keep rain off what is inside it, buy cargo-worthy or better.
Grades, in one paragraph each
New single-trip. Built, loaded once for the voyage out, sold here. Sealed, unmarked, clean floor. Worth the money when appearance matters or when it is going to be converted.
Cargo-worthy. A used container still fit to carry cargo internationally, checked wind and watertight before it leaves the depot. The right grade and the right value for most storage jobs.
As-is. Cheaper again and not sold watertight. A good buy for hoarding, fencing, a base for a conversion, or anything that does not mind a bit of moisture. We tell you what is wrong with one rather than let you find it on delivery day.
Specialty types
General Purpose Shipping Containers
The standard box, and the right answer about eighty per cent of the time. Corrugated Corten steel, marine-ply floor, double cargo doors at one end, forklift-friendly and — in cargo-worthy grade — sealed against rain from above.
High Cube Shipping Containers
Same footprint, 300mm more head height. It sounds trivial written down and it is the difference between a container you can work in and a container you can only store in.
Dangerous Goods Shipping Containers
A purpose-built DG store is a different product to a general purpose container with a vent cut in it, and the difference matters the day somebody from the regulator walks onto your site.
Before you pick a size, answer the access question
The most expensive mistake in this whole process is choosing a 40ft for a site that will only ever take a 20ft, and discovering it when the truck arrives. Run-in length, width at the tightest point, what is overhead, and whether the ground will hold.
