Fremantle stock, driven south, no local yard of ours
Dan’s does not keep a yard in Rockingham or Kwinana. Orders for this corridor are loaded at the third-party depot in Fremantle and travel south by road. The street address of that depot is not published here, and it is not a Dan’s office.
You can still see the unit. Arrange a look at Fremantle, or ask for photos of the container reserved for you and we will send them before it leaves. Those photos are of that container.
Industrial gates add a step the suburbs do not. If the drop is inside a plant, send the site contact and the gate process with the enquiry so the driver is expected.
Postcodes from the beach to Baldivis
City of Rockingham covers Rockingham 6168, Safety Bay 6169, Warnbro 6169, Port Kennedy 6172, Secret Harbour 6173 and Baldivis 6171. Cooloongup and East Rockingham sit with Rockingham on 6168. Shoalwater shares 6169 with Safety Bay and Warnbro.
City of Kwinana covers a different set: Wellard 6170, and Bertram, Orelia, Medina and Parmelia on 6167. Kwinana Beach and the industrial strip run along Cockburn Sound. Naval Base is the northern end of that industrial waterfront.
Between those two councils you get older beach streets, a wide band of housing through Warnbro and Port Kennedy, fast-growing estates at Baldivis and Wellard, and one of the larger industrial areas in the state. An enquiry might be a family storing furniture, a FIFO worker locking away a boat and gear, a subcontractor on a new-home build, or a maintenance crew at a processing plant. Say which one, because the permission questions are different.
Laneways, covenants and the verge
Newer estates were built on smaller lots. Many homes are rear-loaded: the garage faces a lane and the front door faces a park or a street with no crossover. For a container, the lane is often the only way onto the lot. Lanes are narrow. Wheelie bins, parked cars and overhead power all get in the way. A photo along the lane from each end is the most useful thing you can send.
Many of those estates carry design guidelines or a restrictive covenant for their first years. Some cover outbuildings, visible storage and what may sit forward of the building line. Read the title and the estate rules as well as the City of Rockingham or City of Kwinana requirements.
Both councils manage their own verges. If the lot has no room and the box has to sit on the verge while a renovation runs, ask the council that covers the address, before a truck is booked. Expect questions about the footpath, sight lines from neighbouring driveways, and duration. Corner lots need extra care: a box near an intersection can block the view of traffic. A 10ft on the driveway is often calmer than a 20ft in the wrong place.
Grades are explained without the sales language in New, used or as-is: what changes?.
Kwinana gates, boats and beachside renovations
The Kwinana industrial strip, from Naval Base down toward East Rockingham, mixes heavy processing, fabrication, logistics yards and contractor compounds. Many sites run their own induction, traffic plan and permit system. A delivery truck needs to be booked at the gatehouse. Inside the fence, think about forklifts, cranes and emergency routes. Maintenance crews often want a tool store close to the job, and the safety officer usually has a firm view of where it may go. Settle the position with them, then the truck is planned around it.
If the job is chemicals rather than tools, look at a dangerous-goods container and check the site rules with the safety officer. A standard dry box is not a substitute for a store that has to meet those rules.
Rockingham is also boating water, with Cockburn Sound on one side and Warnbro Sound on the other. Boat owners, marine trades and sailing clubs keep outboards, trailer parts, fishing gear and sails in containers. On a house block, a box beside a boat trailer swallows a side yard, so measure both. Sea air along the beach works on steel. Sound paint is the practical starting point. Keep touch-up paint for scratches and look at the door seals each year. Anything stored at ground level should sit off low patches that hold water after heavy rain.
Safety Bay, Shoalwater and the streets behind Rockingham Beach have older houses on bigger blocks, and plenty are being extended. A driveway box can hold furniture and appliances while floors or a bathroom are redone, and a hire ends when the work ends. Look at the crossover before the day. An old, cracked crossover may not like a loaded vehicle, and councils commonly hold the owner responsible for crossover repairs. A photo helps decide whether the box should be placed from the road instead.
Trades at home and builders on unnamed streets
Trades servicing Baldivis, Wellard and further south often want a base at home between jobs. That is a sensible use, and a large box in a front yard can also draw a complaint. Residential zoning may limit commercial storage. A short call to the council about home-based business rules is worth making first.
For builders, a hired site box collected at handover keeps tools off the ute overnight. Give the lot number, the estate name and the builder’s site contact so the driver can find a street that may not yet show on a map.
A cargo-worthy used unit is the usual tool-store choice and leaves the depot checked wind and watertight. Choose something else if the load cannot cope with damp: the as-is grade does not come with a watertight promise.
Rockingham details that belong in the first email
Name the council in the first line. City of Rockingham and City of Kwinana do not share a verge policy, and a Baldivis 6171 address is not a Wellard 6170 address for that purpose. Safety Bay, Warnbro and Shoalwater on 6169, Port Kennedy on 6172 and Secret Harbour on 6173 stay with Rockingham. Bertram, Orelia, Medina and Parmelia on 6167 stay with Kwinana. Getting that wrong wastes the first phone call.
Laneway lots need three numbers: lane width, the gap beside the garage, and the length of level ground where the box would sit. Design guidelines and covenants can ban visible storage even when the council would have allowed it. Read the title. A corner block near an intersection is a poor verge candidate because sight lines matter more than spare grass.
Industrial drops along Cockburn Sound are a booking exercise. Naval Base through to East Rockingham includes plants that will not open a gate for an unexpected truck. Send the site contact, the induction, and the hours the gatehouse accepts deliveries. Inside the fence, the safety officer should already have picked a spot that misses crane paths and emergency routes. If the store is for chemicals, ask about a dangerous-goods container and follow the site’s own rules. A plain dry box is not that store.
Beach streets in Safety Bay, Shoalwater and behind Rockingham Beach often have older crossovers. A cracked crossover can be the owner’s repair if a heavy vehicle breaks it. A photo lets us suggest placing from the roadway instead. Boat trailers and marine gear need a width check before a 20ft is assumed. Sound paint matters in salt air. Look at door seals once a year. Keep the base off puddles that sit after rain.
Builders on estates that are still being named should give the lot, the estate and a mobile for the site supervisor. A hired box collected at handover keeps tools off the ute. Trades who want a permanent base at home should ask the council about residential storage before it arrives in the front yard. Cargo-worthy used stock is the usual tool-store choice and is checked wind and watertight before it leaves Fremantle. Anything that must not see a leak should avoid the as-is grade, which carries no dryness promise.
There is still no Dan’s yard on this corridor. Loading happens at the Fremantle depot a third party operates. The address stays unpublished. Photos of the allocated container, or a depot visit, are how you see the real unit before it travels south.
Keep the two waterfronts separate in the enquiry as well. Cockburn Sound industrial, from Naval Base down through Kwinana Beach toward East Rockingham, is gatehouses, inductions and safety officers. Warnbro Sound and the beach suburbs, Safety Bay, Shoalwater, Rockingham Beach, Warnbro, Port Kennedy and Secret Harbour, are houses, boats and older crossovers. Baldivis 6171 and Wellard 6170 are the estate-and-lane jobs, and they are not even the same council. A FIFO shed full of fishing gear is closer to the beach pattern than the plant pattern. A maintenance crew inside a processing site is the opposite. Say which, attach the photos that match, and name the person who can stand where the box should go. Dan’s still does not list a local yard. The steel comes south from Fremantle stock held by someone else.
