East from Fremantle, no yard in town
There is no Dan’s office and no Dan’s yard in the Goldfields. Containers for Kalgoorlie-Boulder are carried east along the Great Eastern Highway from the third-party depot in Fremantle. That depot’s street address is not published.
Inspection at the Fremantle depot can be arranged. Photos of the actual container allocated to the order can be sent before it is loaded for the highway.
A contract with a known end date is a common reason to hire. A yard that will use the box for years is a common reason to buy. The comparison, without a price list, is in Hire or buy? Start with your timeframe..
Kalgoorlie 6430, Boulder 6432, and the wide streets
City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder covers both towns. Kalgoorlie 6430 includes Hannans, Lamington, Somerville, Piccadilly, South Kalgoorlie, Karlkurla, Broadwood and the West Kalgoorlie industrial area. Boulder is 6432. Hannan Street in Kalgoorlie and Burt Street in Boulder are famously wide, and many older residential streets are generous too.
The city grew around the gold mines. Contractors at the Super Pit, drilling companies and workshops supplying operations across the Goldfields are where a lot of container demand comes from, alongside households and small businesses.
Wide frontages mean a 20ft often fits beside an older house more easily than it would in a coastal estate. Parts of the historic centres carry heritage protection. If a container would be visible from the street near Hannan Street or Burt Street, ask the City first.
Mine gates and West Kalgoorlie gravel
Containers on mine sites and in contractors’ yards hold tools, spares and consumables, and some are fitted out as small workshops. Mine sites have strict access rules: inductions, escorts, vehicle requirements and set delivery points. If the box is going onto a lease, send the site contact and the requirements up front so transport can be arranged to match. We do not override a site’s safety rules.
Many contractors want a container placed at their yard in town and moved to a site later. Check that the yard layout will let a truck pick it up again, and that nothing will be built or parked around it in the meantime.
West Kalgoorlie is the main industrial area: engineering, transport and mining services. Yards are usually flat and gravelled, which suits a truck. Decide where the box sits relative to forklifts, fuel storage and loading areas, and whether the lease allows it. Keep doors facing the working area with room to open them fully. Red dust gets into everything, so check the door seals and sweep the floor if the goods inside need to stay clean.
Heat, storms and heritage verges
Goldfields summers are hot. A steel container in full sun gets much hotter inside than the air around it. Tools and dry equipment usually cope. Paints, adhesives, batteries and anything with a storage-temperature limit need the manufacturer’s guidance, plus shade and ventilation if you can arrange it. We do not claim a standard box is a cool room.
Storms are occasional and can be heavy. Water sheets across hard ground. Keep the container off low spots. A cargo-worthy or new single-trip container is sold wind and watertight from above, but water running along the ground can still reach the door seals. As-is units are not sold as watertight.
If the verge is the only option, the City manages it and should be asked. Say how long the box will stay, and keep footpaths and sight lines clear. Retail businesses along Hannan Street and in Boulder usually put overflow stock in rear yards or service lanes. Some older lanes are narrower than the main streets suggest. Check the width and any overhead power.
Races, trades and people moving with the work
Racing carnivals, sporting clubs and community events use containers to keep equipment between seasons. On council reserves or shared grounds the land manager needs to agree the position and the truck route. Hard, dry ground is the norm, but irrigated ovals can have soft patches.
Electricians, plumbers, mechanics and other trades often need lockable storage at home or at a small yard. Ask the City whether a container on a residential lot used for business storage fits the zoning, and keep it clear of the neighbours’ fences.
People move in and out of Kalgoorlie with work. A container can hold household goods while a rental is sorted, or between one house and the next. Hire suits a short stay. Buying suits a longer one. For a short hire, share the dates you have in mind. Once you order, the truck day is confirmed.
Goldfields yards, heat and the highway
City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder covers both towns. Use 6430 for Kalgoorlie, Hannans, Lamington, Somerville, Piccadilly, South Kalgoorlie, Karlkurla, Broadwood and West Kalgoorlie. Use 6432 for Boulder. Wide older frontages are why a 20ft often fits beside a house here. Heritage streets, especially near Hannan Street and Burt Street, are the exception. Ask the City before a box would be seen from those frontages.
Mine leases and contractor yards are the bulk of the work. Inductions, escorts and nominated delivery points are the site’s rules. Send them with the enquiry so the truck matches the gate, not the other way around. If the box will live in town and move to a lease later, leave a clear pickup path. Do not build a rack around it. West Kalgoorlie gravel yards suit trucks. Still decide the spot against forklifts, fuel stores and the lease plan. Red dust sneaks past tired door seals. Sweep if the goods care.
Summer heat inside a closed steel box climbs well above the shade temperature. Tools cope. Paints, adhesives and batteries may not. Follow the maker’s storage notes and find shade if you can. This is not a cool room. Storm water sheets across hard ground, so low spots are a poor pad. A cargo-worthy or new single-trip unit is sold so rain from above stays out. Ground water can still meet the seals. As-is is not a dry-storage grade.
Verges are City land. Ask before using one, keep the footpath and the sight line, and say how long the stay is. Older service lanes behind Hannan Street and in Boulder can be narrower than the main road. Measure them. Trades who store from home should ask about zoning. Racing carnivals and club grounds need the land manager’s route. Irrigated ovals can be the soft patch in an otherwise hard town. People moving with a contract often hire for the gap between houses. A long-term yard is the usual reason to buy.
The haul is the Great Eastern Highway from the Fremantle depot a third party operates. Dan’s has no Goldfields office and does not publish that depot’s address. An inspection there can be arranged, or photos of the allocated container can be sent before it is loaded. Share any mine-site rules, any heritage flag, and photos of the approach when you enquire. The truck day is confirmed once you order.
Separate the Super Pit end of the work from the house end. A lease delivery needs the site’s escort and delivery point written down. A West Kalgoorlie yard on 6430 needs a pickup path left clear if the box will move again. A Boulder 6432 house with a wide frontage is often simple until the street is a heritage one near Burt Street. Hannan Street lanes are a width check, not a main-street assumption. Lamington, Somerville, Piccadilly, South Kalgoorlie, Karlkurla, Broadwood and Hannans are residential 6430 addresses with different trees, fences and verges. Heat-sensitive paints and batteries should be called out so nobody treats the box as a cool store. Racing-carnival gear needs the reserve manager. People between rentals usually want a hire with an end date. Dan’s still has no Goldfields yard. The Great Eastern is the road, Fremantle is the load point, and the address of that load point stays off the website.
Contractors sometimes want the container in town for a week and on a lease the week after. That only works if the town yard can still be reached by a truck and nobody has parked a float against the doors. Write both addresses if that is the plan, plus the induction for the second stop. A South Kalgoorlie house move is a different enquiry: duration, driveway, and whether the City needs a say about the verge. Boulder lanes behind the shops need a width, not a hope. Dust seals matter if the goods are clean stock rather than steel offcuts. Heat matters if the goods are adhesives. None of this is a price, and none of it is a Dan’s counter in Kalgoorlie. Photos of the allocated container can still be sent before the Great Eastern haul starts.
