Ground and access conditions in Darwin
Darwin and Palmerston proper are easy delivery country — wide roads, big lots, plenty of formed hardstand on the Winnellie and Berrimah industrial land. Two things dominate everything else. The first is the wet, roughly November to April, when unsealed access across the rural area, out along the highways and into the communities becomes unusable for a loaded truck and stays that way for weeks rather than days. That is not a scheduling inconvenience, it is a hard constraint, and any supplier promising you a wet-season delivery to an unsealed address is guessing. The second is that this is a cyclonic region with a high wind classification, so how a container is secured is a genuine engineering question rather than a formality. Plan a Top End container purchase around the dry if you possibly can, and if you cannot, plan it around a formed hardstand you can reach in any weather.
Why the lead time is longer, and what we will not do about it
Darwin holds a shallow pool of container stock relative to demand. Everything else comes by sea or up the Stuart Highway from Adelaide, and neither is fast or cheap. Five to ten business days is the honest figure for something we can source locally, and a specific requirement can be several weeks.
What we will not do is quote you an eastern-states lead time and then explain it away afterwards. If the date matters, tell us the date at the enquiry. Sometimes we can meet it from what is on the ground. Sometimes we cannot, and knowing that on the first phone call is worth more to you than an optimistic answer that unravels a fortnight later.
Building a delivery around the wet
From November to April, the question is not whether the truck can get there but whether the truck can get back. Rural blocks off the Cox Peninsula road, properties along the Arnhem Highway, and anything with a creek crossing between the bitumen and the spot are simply not delivery propositions for a large part of the year.
The workable approach is to place the container on formed ground near sealed access even if that is not where you eventually want it, and move it in the dry with a machine that suits your site. It is not the tidiest answer. It is the one that gets your container onto your property this year rather than next May.

Is a container suitable for cyclone country?
A shipping container is a very strong structure, but strength is not the same as being secured. This is a high wind classification region and how a container is anchored is a question for a local engineer or certifier who knows your site.
