North on the Brand Highway
Geraldton containers leave the third-party Fremantle depot and come north along the Brand Highway. There is no Dan’s depot in Geraldton. We do not publish the Fremantle yard address.
Inspection at Fremantle can be arranged. If you would rather not make the trip, ask for pictures of the unit that would be sent and they go out before it is loaded.
The same access habits in Walk the route before the truck does apply on a Narngulu gate as on a suburban crossover: photograph the last stretch, not just the destination.
Postcodes from Tarcoola Beach to the port
City of Greater Geraldton covers the city and a wide rural area, including Mullewa and the Greenough flats. Geraldton itself is 6530. That postcode takes in Tarcoola Beach, Beresford, Bluff Point, Utakarra, Rangeway, Karloo, Mount Tarcoola, Waggrakine and the Webberton industrial area.
Drummond Cove, Glenfield and Narngulu are 6532. The built-up coast runs from Tarcoola Beach in the south to Drummond Cove in the north, with inland suburbs behind and industry at Webberton and Narngulu.
Use follows the local economy: the port, the fishing fleet, farming, mining services and a steady amount of building. Households use containers too, mostly during renovations and moves.
Doors, southerlies and tie-downs we will not design
Geraldton is known for strong afternoon southerlies, especially through spring and summer. Container doors are heavy and act like a sail in a gust. Choose a position where the doors open with the wind rather than against it, or where a building gives some shelter. Door stays, or a simple rope tie, stop an open door swinging back on someone.
Wind also carries sand and grit that wears hinges and locking gear. A little grease keeps them moving. If a container is staying long-term, ask City of Greater Geraldton or a local engineer whether any tie-down is needed for that site. We supply dimensions and weights when an adviser asks. We do not design anchoring.
Sand is common in the coastal suburbs, so set pads under each corner. Mention soft patches along the driveway. A loaded truck can sink where a car rolls over without trouble.
Port, Webberton, Narngulu and the fishing harbour
The Port of Geraldton handles grain, iron ore, mineral sands and other cargo. Webberton and Narngulu host engineering workshops, transport yards and mining-services businesses. Containers on these sites serve as tool stores, parts stores and equipment shelters. Many sites have induction and gate rules. Send the site contact and the requirements with the enquiry.
If the box will sit near forklift routes or loading bays, settle the position with the site manager first. A container dropped in a turning circle often has to be moved again.
Western rock lobster fishing is a large part of the local economy. Fishing operators, marine mechanics and boat owners use containers for pots, rope, spare parts and gear. Near the marina and the fishing boat harbour, check any lease or port-authority rule about containers on the site. Salt spray is hard on steel. Hose salt off now and then and touch up bare metal. Stack wet rope and pots so water drains rather than pooling on the floor.
House lots, northern estates and farm tracks
Most residential suburbs have reasonable blocks and flat driveways, so a 20ft often fits along a driveway or in the front yard. Newer estates in the north, such as Glenfield and Waggrakine, may have tighter lots and estate guidelines about visible storage. If the verge is the only spot, ask the City first.
New houses in the northern suburbs, and renovations of older homes around Beresford, Bluff Point and the town centre, keep trades busy. Builders use hired containers for site storage, placed clear of the slab and the crossover and still reachable for collection. On a narrow lot a 10ft may be all that fits. Wind-blown sand gets into everything on a building site. Keep the doors shut when nobody is working and sweep the floor so tools stay usable.
Farms around the city, through the Chapman Valley and further inland, use containers for seed, parts and tools, and harvest brings extra demand. Access is usually gravel and farm tracks. Send photos of the gate and the track, and mention creek crossings or soft sections. Farm chemicals may belong in a dangerous-goods container. Check storage requirements with the supplier. The foreshore and the sporting grounds host events, and clubs keep gear in containers. On council land the City needs to agree the placement. Soft sand near the beach is worth checking before the day.
Mid West placements, wind first
City of Greater Geraldton is the council for the built-up coast and a wide rural area, including Mullewa and the Greenough flats. Geraldton 6530 covers Tarcoola Beach, Beresford, Bluff Point, Utakarra, Rangeway, Karloo, Mount Tarcoola, Waggrakine and Webberton. Drummond Cove, Glenfield and Narngulu are 6532. Say which of those the truck is aiming at, because a house crossover and a Narngulu gate are different paperwork.
Face doors out of the afternoon southerly, or into the lee of a shed, and fit a stay so a gust cannot slam a leaf. Grease hinges. Sand in the wind wears the gear. Long-term tie-down is a question for the City or a local engineer. We will pass dimensions and weights to that person. We will not draw a tie-down. Coastal sand wants pads under the corners. Mention soft patches. A truck is heavier than the car that uses the drive every day.
Port deliveries and the engineering yards at Webberton and Narngulu need the site contact and the induction in the enquiry. Do not leave the position to be invented on the day if forklifts and loading bays are nearby. A second visit to drag a box out of a turning circle is an avoidable cost. Fishing-harbour gear, pots and rope should drain. Hose salt off the floor. Check any marina lease before a container lands on that site.
Glenfield and Waggrakine estates can be tighter than the older Beresford blocks, and some guidelines dislike visible storage. A verge placement starts with a question to the City. Builders on northern lots and renovators in Bluff Point use hired stores clear of the slab. A narrow frontage may only accept a 10ft. Shut the doors against blowing sand when the site is empty. Chapman Valley and inland farms should send gate and track photos, plus creek crossings. Farm chemicals belong in a dangerous-goods container if the supplier says so.
Foreshore events need the City’s agreement and a check of soft sand. The haul north is the Brand Highway from the Fremantle depot, which Dan’s does not own and does not give an address for. Pictures of the allocated unit can go out before loading. Include the wind direction at the spot, the site contact for any port job, and photos of the approach.
Geraldton enquiries get clearer when the economy is named. A Webberton or Narngulu 6532 workshop is induction and forklift space. The fishing harbour is pots, rope, salt and a lease that may not allow a box where you first pictured it. A Beresford or Bluff Point renovation is a house lot and a hire that should end. Glenfield and Waggrakine are tighter northern estates on the coast road toward Drummond Cove. Tarcoola Beach is the southern residential end. Utakarra, Rangeway, Karloo and Mount Tarcoola sit inland of the CBD on 6530. Chapman Valley farms are tracks and gates, not suburban crossovers. Mullewa and the Greenough flats are still City of Greater Geraldton, and they are not a five-minute yard run. Wind direction belongs in every one of those notes. Tie-down design does not belong with us. The Brand Highway haul from Fremantle does.
Add the small things that change the vehicle. A Drummond Cove estate guideline about storage that can be seen from the street is different from a Rangeway driveway that is simply sandy. A Greenough flats track after rain is different from a Webberton hardstand at 7am. Cray pots that stay wet need a floor that can drain, and a marina lease may forbid the spot you circled on a photo. Bluff Point renovations should say when the hire can finish so collection is not an afterthought. Northern house builds should say if a 10ft is all the frontage will take. Southerly direction still belongs in the note. Anchoring still belongs with an engineer or the City if they require it. Dan’s still has no Mid West depot, and the Fremantle load point stays unpublished.
