DAN’SSHIPPING CONTAINERS
Northern corridor

Joondalup’s coast and Wanneroo’s growth edge are different truck jobs.

A Duncraig driveway, a Wangara strata unit and a lot in Alkimos rarely want the same vehicle or the same permission. The council boundary is the first split.

Illustrative container storage scene in an Australian setting

Loaded in Fremantle, no Wangara yard

There is no Dan’s premises in Wangara or Joondalup. Northern-corridor containers come by road from Fremantle, where a third party holds the stock. We will not pretend that yard is ours, and we do not print its address.

A look at the unit can be arranged at Fremantle. If that is a long drive, ask for images of the actual container once one is allocated. They go out before the truck is organised.

Timing follows the order, not a standing promise. Say if the box is only needed for a short hire, and give the dates you are working toward, so the collection is planned with the delivery.

Postcodes from Warwick up to Yanchep

City of Joondalup takes the established coastal and inner-north suburbs: Joondalup 6027, Hillarys 6025, Sorrento 6020, Duncraig 6023, Kingsley 6026, Woodvale 6026, Currambine 6028 and Burns Beach 6028. Warwick and Greenwood sit on 6024. Padbury shares 6025 with Hillarys. Ocean Reef and Mullaloo are 6027.

City of Wanneroo takes the inland suburbs and almost all of the new growth: Wanneroo, Wangara and Landsdale on 6065, Banksia Grove and Neerabup on 6031, Clarkson 6030, Butler 6036, Alkimos 6038, Eglinton 6034 and Yanchep 6035. Two Rocks is 6037. Madeley is also 6065.

Their verge, outbuilding and home-business rules are written separately. A request from Duncraig is usually a settled household. One from Alkimos is more often a builder, a new owner still waiting on a shed, or a trade working the estates.

Established driveways, trees and summer parking

In Duncraig, Kingsley, Greenwood and Padbury, blocks are mid-sized, with the house set behind a front lawn and a driveway to a double garage. That often leaves room for a 20ft along the driveway or across the front setback. The limits are mature verge trees over the crossover, and low eaves near the garage, because a tilt-tray lifts its deck as the box slides off.

If the verge is the only option, City of Joondalup expects to be asked. Give them the length and the dates. Keep the footpath clear, and keep the box off reticulation under the lawn.

Closer to the ocean, in Hillarys, Sorrento, Mullaloo, Ocean Reef and Burns Beach, lots are often smaller and the double garage takes most of the frontage. Coastal streets also fill with parked cars on summer weekends, when beach traffic takes every kerb. Say if the truck will need a gap cleared so it can line up. Salt air off the coast works on steel that stays more than a season. Look over seals and hinges, and touch up chips before rust starts.

A 40ft is about twelve metres and needs a long straight run. It suits industrial yards and rural lots more than these house blocks. For most homes in the corridor a 20ft is the practical limit, and a 10ft is the one that fits when the frontage is already full of garage.

Wangara units, Alkimos slabs and market gardens

Wangara is the corridor’s main trade strip, packed with suppliers, workshops and small warehouse units. Neerabup, further north, has larger industrial lots. In a strata industrial complex both the strata company and the landlord have a say about containers in shared yards and car bays, so ask before ordering. Doors that open every day should face the forklift or the ute, with a clear apron. Each door is a little over a metre wide, so allow at least that much clear space in front, and plan an aisle if the box will be packed deep.

Alkimos, Eglinton and Yanchep are one long construction zone. A site container in the wrong place holds up the next trade. Agree the position with the builder: clear of the slab, the crossover and the pool dig, and reachable once the site is fenced. The ground is coastal sand, often with limestone close to the surface. Sand shifts under concentrated loads, so set solid pads under the corners. Where limestone is exposed, check the spot is reasonably flat. An uneven base can twist the frame enough that the doors will not close cleanly.

Around Wanneroo, Carabooda 6033 and Pinjar 6078 there are market gardens, nurseries and larger rural-residential blocks. They use containers for packing materials, irrigation parts and small machinery. Access is often an unsealed track, and a loaded truck can bog in loose sand where other vehicles have churned it up. Describe the track and send photos from the gate. Fertiliser and garden chemicals may need a dangerous-goods container rather than a standard box. Check storage requirements with the supplier or a safety adviser.

Clubs, reserves and what to send

Sporting clubs, school events and community festivals around the city centre and the coastal reserves use containers between seasons. On council reserves the parks team generally needs to agree where a box sits and how the truck crosses the grass. Mention irrigation lines. A truck wheel on a sprinkler head is an easy way to lose goodwill.

Send the suburb, which council covers it, the driveway or track surface, and photos of the verge, the crossover and the placement spot. A building site should add the lot number and the builder’s contact.

A front-yard box used for business storage can be treated differently from one holding household goods. Ask the relevant council before it arrives. Some residential zones limit storage forward of the building line.

Northern corridor notes worth writing down

Put the council in the subject line of your own notes before you enquire. City of Joondalup covers the settled coastal side: Hillarys, Sorrento, Duncraig, Kingsley, Woodvale, Currambine, Burns Beach, Joondalup itself. City of Wanneroo covers Wangara, Landsdale, Wanneroo, Clarkson, Butler, Alkimos, Eglinton, Yanchep and Two Rocks. Verge questions go to the matching council, not to a generic northern answer.

Established drives in Duncraig, Kingsley, Greenwood and Padbury usually accept a 20ft beside the garage, until a verge tree or a low eave gets in the way of the tilt-tray deck. Photograph the crossover from the street and from the garage. Summer Saturdays in Hillarys, Mullaloo, Ocean Reef and Burns Beach fill the kerb with beach parking. Say so, and send a picture of a busy day if you have one. Salt air means a look at hinges after a season.

Wangara strata units and Neerabup lots need a landlord’s yes and, where the yard is shared, the strata company’s yes. Face daily-use doors at the work area and leave a metre-plus of clear apron. Each leaf is a little over a metre wide. Alkimos, Eglinton and Yanchep slabs should be marked up with the builder: off the slab, off the pool dig, still reachable after the temporary fence goes in. Coastal sand and near-surface limestone both want firm pads. An uneven limestone pad can rack the frame so the doors stop meeting.

Market gardens at Carabooda and Pinjar often sit at the end of a sandy track. A loaded truck is heavier than the ute that uses the track every day. Photos from the gate, and a note about boggy patches, decide the vehicle. Garden chemicals may belong in a dangerous-goods container. Ask the supplier what store they expect. We will not treat a standard box as a chemical store.

A 40ft is the wrong default on these house blocks. It is about twelve metres and wants a long straight run. Rural lots and industrial yards are where that length belongs. Most homes stop at a 20ft, and a full-width garage often means a 10ft. Front-yard business storage can be treated differently from household goods. Ask the council before it is visible from the street.

Stock for this corridor is still loaded in Fremantle by a third party. Dan’s has no Wangara premises and does not publish the depot address. A Fremantle visit can be set up, or images of the reserved unit can be sent before the run north. Short hires should include the collection date with the delivery date you hope for. The actual day is confirmed with the order.

The corridor is long enough that a single “northern suburbs” note hides the truck. Warwick and Greenwood on 6024, Padbury and Hillarys on 6025, Sorrento on 6020, Duncraig on 6023, Kingsley and Woodvale on 6026, Joondalup and Ocean Reef and Mullaloo on 6027, Currambine and Burns Beach on 6028 are the Joondalup side. Wanneroo, Wangara, Landsdale and Madeley on 6065, Banksia Grove and Neerabup on 6031, Clarkson on 6030, Butler on 6036, Alkimos on 6038, Eglinton on 6034, Yanchep on 6035 and Two Rocks on 6037 are the Wanneroo side. A Duncraig lawn, a Wangara strata bay, an Alkimos slab and a Carabooda 6033 nursery track should not share a sentence in your enquiry. Clubs near the city centre should mention irrigation. Coastal weekends should mention parked cars. Dan’s has no depot on either side of that council line.

Northern corridor answers

Is my street City of Joondalup or City of Wanneroo?

Warwick, Duncraig, Hillarys, Sorrento, Kingsley, Joondalup and Burns Beach are City of Joondalup. Wanneroo, Wangara, Landsdale, Clarkson, Butler, Alkimos, Eglinton, Yanchep and Two Rocks are City of Wanneroo.

Can a container go on an Alkimos site before the fence is up?

Yes, if the builder agrees and the truck can reach the spot. Many builders want it early so trades have a lockable store from the start. Confirm the position with the builder, clear of the slab and the pool dig.

Do you keep stock in Wangara?

No. This corridor is supplied by road from a third-party depot in Fremantle. A visit can be arranged there. Photos of the allocated unit are sent on request before it travels.

Will a 40ft fit on a Currambine or Duncraig block?

Rarely. It needs a long, straight approach and a larger truck. Industrial yards and rural lots are the realistic homes for that length. Most houses here stop at a 20ft.

What changes on a summer Saturday in Hillarys?

Parked cars. Beach traffic can fill both kerbs, so the truck may need a space cleared to line up. Mention that when you enquire, and send a photo of the street as it usually looks on a busy day.
